The ANA's Policy & State Government Affairs program monitors trends in nursing-related legislation in the states. More than 1,000 nursing and healthcare related bills introduced in state legislatures each session are reviewed.

Select reports are provided here including background / overview of the issue and legislation enacted by state, including advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) scope of practice, nurse staffing, title "nurse" protection, interstate nurse licensure compacts, and workplace violence.

The sources for legislative updates include StateScape Tracking Service, information reported by ANA state affiliate nurses' associations and state legislative websites. Every effort is made to provide comprehensive and accurate legislative summaries; however, omissions are possible.
