ANCC Announces 2023 HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein Award Winner: President & CEO of National League of Nursing, Beverly Malone

Silver Spring, MD - Today, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) presented Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, the president and CEO of the National League of Nursing, with the prestigious HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein Award for her commitment to advancing the nursing profession and excellence in nursing professional practice across international borders. The award was conferred at the co-located ANCC National Magnet Conference® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in Chicago.
“Beverly’s storied career, which includes an impressive body of work spanning more than five decades, will leave a lasting positive impact on the nursing profession and an indelible legacy that transcends borders,” said ANCC President Rhonda Anderson, DNSc(h), MPA, BS, RN, LFACHE, FAAN. “It is my sincere privilege to present her with this well-deserved award.”
Dr. Malone has served in a variety of nursing roles from staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist to director of nursing, earning her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Malone also went on to hold a variety of leadership positions throughout her career that touched not only on clinical practice but also on policy, education, administration, and clinical practice.
Most notably, Dr. Malone served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She was also elected to serve two terms as President of the American Nurses Association (ANA) – the largest professional association for nurses in the U.S., and as General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) – the United Kingdom's largest professional union of nurses. Dr. Malone also represented the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), the European Federation of Nurses Associations (EFN), the Commonwealth Nurses Federation, and the International Council of Nurses with the RCN president. On the educational front, Dr. Malone was appointed Dean of the School of Nursing at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
The HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to health care internationally and demonstrated an exceptional dedication to nursing. It is named for Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein of Jordan and represents her deep commitment to the advancement of nursing in Jordan and around the globe. Honorees are selected by the ANCC president, and the award is given only when the recognition is warranted.
