ANA Board of Directors Appoints Laura J. Wood as New ANCC President

SILVER SPRING, MD - The American Nurses Association (ANA) Board of Directors has appointed Laura J. Wood, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN as President of its credentialing subsidiary, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Dr. Wood will continue her current two-year ANCC Board service as President Designate until her term as President begins Jan 1, 2024. She will succeed current ANCC President Rhonda Anderson, DNSc(h), MPA, BS, RN, LFACHE, FAAN in leading ANCC's internationally renowned certification, accreditation and recognition programs that certify individual nurses in specialty practice areas and recognize healthcare organizations that promote nursing excellence and quality patient outcomes.
Dr. Wood is nationally recognized as an accomplished executive nursing practice leader with substantial experience advancing health outcomes in pediatric delivery systems and digital health industry settings. In her current role as Executive Vice President, Patient Care Operations and System Chief Nursing Officer at Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Wood leads the discipline of nursing and provides system-level oversight in support of more than 6,000 nurses, interprofessional team members and organizational initiatives. Her strategic guidance and expertise in quality and safety practices, equity-diversity-inclusivity-belonging, healthy work environments, nurse-led care delivery innovation, and health policy have contributed to Boston Children’s being consistently recognized among the nation’s best children’s hospitals by numerous organizations. Since joining Boston Children’s in 2013, Dr. Wood has led the organization through successive ANCC Magnet redesignations as well as ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program with Distinction efforts.
Dr. Wood holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, a Master of Science (MS) degree in maternal-child nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and a Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree in Nursing from West Virginia University. Dr. Wood serves as Boston Children’s Sporing Carpenter Chair in Nursing, is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow alumna, an elected Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and serves on several nursing and healthcare advisory boards.
