PHILADELPHIA, PA. - Today, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) kicks off the annual ANCC National Magnet Conference® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in Philadelphia with the launch of a giving campaign to support PHLCares and the American Nurses Foundation. ANCC seeks to raise $50,000 through donations given during the conference that will be shared between PHLCares, a homelessness solutions initiative, and the American Nurses Foundation (the Foundation), committed to advancing the nursing profession.

ANCC invites the local community of Philadelphia to join the more than 10,000 nurses attending the conference in a text-to-give campaign challenge that begins during the conference and remains open through October 31, 2022.

With nearly 4,900 people living on the streets, Philadelphia is facing a chronic street homelessness crisis. PHLCares provides access to long-term housing and other resources that those experiencing homelessness need to succeed. Nursing is a profession committed to health equity. Addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) such as safe housing is a priority for the nation’s nursing workforce and in alignment with the PHLCares mission. The American Nurses Foundation strives to provide nurses the financial resources they need to research, test, and amplify solutions that address pressing issues in health care and communities nationwide.

“ANCC’s priority is always the health and well-being of our communities. It's important that we support local organizations in our host cities that are working to advance public health and the quality of patient care,” said Rebecca Graystone, MS, MBA, RN, NE-BC, ANCC Vice President of the Magnet Recognition Program® and Pathway to Excellence® Program. “As the single largest group of healthcare professionals in the U.S., nurses are uniquely positioned to impact health equity efforts through their influence and perspective of the health care delivery system. To that end, we are pleased to support PHLCares and the American Nurses Foundation to further the urgent work for communities and for nurses.”

All conference attendees and the public can get involved by texting the following to “20222”:

Text RN to donate $10

Text CARE to donate $25

Text TOGETHER to donate $50

“ANCC’s commitment to give back to the local communities where they hold their conferences is a reflection of both the organization’s charitable philosophy and the giving nature of the nursing profession,” said John J. McNichol, President & CEO of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority and a co-founder of PHLCares Fund.  “We are grateful that ANCC designated the Fund for their charitable giving campaign and, to maximize the impact, the PCCA will match every dollar raised for PHLCares. Each contribution will make a real, measurable difference as PHLCares continues to invest in programs offering permanent supportive housing with wrap-around services, an evidence-based practice with a 90% success rate in preventing a return to homelessness.”

Past giving campaigns initiated by ANCC have raised more than $50,000 to support local charities in conference host cities. Donations to the PHLCares Fund help provide long-term housing for those suffering from chronic homelessness. Funds raised for the Foundation will support Health and Well-Being programs for nurses and the communities that they serve.

This year, Hillman Group and The Bradford Exchange will match donations up to  $15,000.

Corporate partners are invited to join in leading the challenge with a pledge of $10,000 to match every $1 donated up to that amount. Interested companies or individuals can learn more by emailing givetonursing@ana.org.
