SILVER SPRING, MD - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence® designated hospitals participating in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey will now have the opportunity to earn full credit for demonstrating nursing excellence in critical workforce areas, such as addressing nurse staffing and bolstering nurse leadership. The Leapfrog Group will implement this addition beginning this year.
The ANCC Pathway to Excellence Program® is the premier designation for healthy work environments, recognizing organizations that demonstrate a commitment to establishing the foundation of a healthy workplace for staff. Hospitals participating in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey that indicate a current Pathway to Excellence designation, as determined by ANCC, will earn full credit for the National Quality Forum-endorsed Safe Practice #9 - Nursing Workforce. This section of the survey is used to assess hospitals on their dedication to ensuring that nurses at all levels, including senior administrative and unit levels, are highly trained to adequately provide safe patient care across all settings and specialties. This section also ensures that organizations are placing nurses in leadership roles that allow them to have a decision-making role in nursing practice and patient safety issues. The measures utilized align closely with those of the National Quality Forum (NQF) and the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).
“ANCC is honored to be recognized by The Leapfrog Group and to be included in this very important effort that contributes to the standard for quality care and patient safety," said ANCC Pathway to Excellence® Program Director Christine Pabico, PhD, RN, NE-BC, FAAN. "ANCC believes every nurse must work in an environment that’s safe and supportive and that promotes the highest level of excellence in nursing practice and patient care. This achievement is a testament to the undisputable role of nursing practice in our country’s ever-changing health care system. This has never been truer as nurses all over the world continue to respond to COVID-19.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Survey is open to every acute-care hospital in the country and is one of the nation's oldest and most transparent all-payor national hospital survey.
