ANCC Announces Increased Recognition for Nurses Working to Make a Difference in Health Care

SILVER SPRING, MD — The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a national credentialing body dedicated to advancing nursing, has proudly announced an increase in 2020 funds for both the ANCC Magnet Prize®, and the ANCC Pathway Award®, awarded each year to organizations that make an impactful and valuable contribution to the nursing profession and health care. This year, with the support from Cerner Corporation (Nasdaq: CERN), a global health care technology company, the ANCC Magnet Prize will increase to $75,000. This award is presented to a Magnet-recognized organization in which cutting-edge research, technologies, and innovations support patient care, nursing excellence and positive outcomes. Additionally, the ANCC Pathway Award, presented each year to a Pathway-designated facility that promotes the role of the nurse in the practice environment through innovation and transitions of care, will increase to $50,000.

Nurses around the globe play a vital role in continuing to provide high-quality and innovative care to patients, as well as protecting the health of their communities. Awards like these helps further implement and expand projects that demonstrate innovative nursing programs and practices.

This year’s Magnet Prize and Pathway Award will be presented at the ANCC National Magnet Conference® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® scheduled in Atlanta, Georgia, in April 2021. Both awards represent the highest honors ANCC bestows within the Magnet and Pathway to Excellence communities. Cerner has proudly sponsored both awards since 2007 and 2012 respectively.

Last year, ANCC awarded Charles George VA Medical Center the 2019 ANCC Pathway Award for their proposal to use virtual reality immersion therapy as an alternative to opioid usage for pain management among Veterans and other patient populations. ANCC awarded the 2019 ANCC Magnet Prize to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center for developing a multifaceted, six-part intervention to reduce food insecurity and improve health outcomes in the community.

The 2020 nominations call for ANCC Pathway Award has closed. The 2020 ANCC Magnet Prize call for nominations will open later this summer.
