American Nurses Association + HIMSS Announce New Relationship to Advance Nurse-led Innovation
ANA and HIMSS join forces to advance nurse-led innovation and announce the inaugural NursePitchTM at HIMSS19 Global Conference with monetary, mentorship, recognition and membership prizes. Applications are now open and will close December 14, 2018.
The new relationship between the American Nurses Association (ANA), the premier organization representing the nation’s 4 million registered nurses, and HIMSS, a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information and technology, is a unique opportunity to harness a role for all nurses as innovators, entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts. The collaborative partnership aims to drive nurse-led innovation through co-branded initiatives such as NursePitch, NurseJam™, and other Innovation Lab events. The inaugural NursePitch event will take place at the HIMSS19 Global Conference in February, followed by a NursePitch competition at the 2019 ANA Quality Innovation Conference in April. ANA and HIMSS will also co-author an article about nurse-led innovation to be featured in American Nurse Today and HIMSS publications. Nurse-led innovation is a priority for both HIMSS and ANA. HIMSS has developed the foundation for an engaged nursing informatics culture to showcase the value in health IT and healthcare settings. ANA collaborates with key partners and has established a three-part innovation framework to develop skills and build a culture of innovation.

It has been more than 5 years since the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) published the landmark The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health Report. The Alliance for Nursing Informatics, ANA and HIMSS joined forces to respond to that landmark report in a position statement titled Transforming Nursing Practice through Technology & Informatics. The statement identified recommendations for eliminating barriers and addressing nurses’ role in transforming healthcare through the use of digital health tech.

Monetary prizes include $10,000 for 1st place, $5,000 for 2nd place, and $2,500 for 3rd place; mentorship, recognition, and membership prizes will also be offered.
