The Future of Nursing 2020-2030
The National Academy of Medicine report, The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity, challenges nursing leaders and other stakeholders both within and outside of health care to prioritize addressing the structural inequities that have fueled persistent health disparities. The report lays out a series of recommendations to help the nation meet the need for a stronger, more diversified nursing workforce, prepared to provide care and promote health and well-being among nurses, individuals, and communities.
This work builds on the foundation set out by The IOM Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health (2011) report (see below).

IOM Future of Nursing Report - 2011
In 2008, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) launched a two-year initiative to assess and transform the nursing profession. In 2010, the IOM released The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health with the purpose of producing a report that would make recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint for the future of nursing. ANA was gratified to find that many of the elements and recommendations of the IOM Report on the Future of Nursing were reflected in the ongoing work to advance the nursing profession. ANA and the ANA constituent state nurses' associations have engaged in a wide range of activities over time that support the evidence-based recommendations of the IOM.
