The Nurses' Legacy Memorial is ANA's annual recognition of fallen nurses whose enduring contributions have profoundly impacted lives and communities. We honor and remember the remarkable nurses and extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, colleagues, and communities mourning the fallen.

The "They Were There" poem was designed and developed by the Kansas State Nurses Association in 2003 to be used to honor deceased nurses. Any part or all of the poem may be used; modifications to the reading and script are encouraged. "She Was There" is copyrighted by Duane Jaeger, RN, MSN as published in this brochure. Individuals using this poem as part of a memorial service are permitted to change the pronoun to make it gender appropriate.
